THE Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) has announced the comeback of its international wood and woodworking trade show, the Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE) 2022 after a two-year hiatus.
MTC chairman Norrida Yusoff said the trade fair, to uplift the industry amid the endemic, is set to inspire new solutions and greater opportunities to source for the latest in the timber-based industry.
She said the council is anticipating a high number of serious international buyers who will boost business opportunities for fair exhibitors.
“Everything has been doubled, from the exhibition floor space to the initiatives put in place to make this show a resounding success and a profitable one for our trade fair participants,” she said in a statement today.
She added that the Malaysian timber industry has chalked up notable gains in exports for the first quarter of 2022 as global demand for timber products grew.
“Exports of timber and timber products from January to March this year saw an increase of 8.2% to RM6.54 billion from the same period in 2021 and it is heartening to see the industry is showing such dynamism in exports,” she said.
Meanwhile, MTC chief executive officer Muhtar Suhaili said MTC is anticipating more importers to join the business matching programmes, specifically its Incoming Buying Mission.
He said that in 2019, the Incoming Buying Mission, which was conducted in collaboration with Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) generated sales of RM118.93 million.
“Despite our RM25 million target in MWE 2019, we raked in RM140 million in sales. We are hoping to do much better this year as many investors and business owners are putting the pandemic behind them and gearing up for more face-to-face business dealings at trade fairs,” he added.
MWE 2022, which will be held from November 20 to 22 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre is jointly organised with Panels & Furniture Group and supported by the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry.
The trade show will showcase raw materials and wood products such as wooden flooring, mouldings, doors, window and door frames, panel products, wooden pallets as well as woodworking machinery and cutting tools, abrasives, timber-related equipment and much more. – Bernama, June 20, 2022.
